Post cycle therapy (PCT) is of extreme importance
Post-cycle therapy (PCT) is of extreme importance. As the name suggests, it requires the restoration of endogenous testosterone levels after a cycle of steroids. Those who ignore it risk losing all that they have gained during the steroid cure, even more so. Worse, in some cases, the body may remain with a hormonal imbalance. So, never ignore post-cycle therapy!
As the saying goes, "there is a price for everything," and in the case of using steroids, this price is to lower your own hormone production (at least temporarily). What is happening is quite simple; When you take steroids, your body stops producing them alone. After cessation of use, the body will no longer produce testosterone for a while. This interval is very disturbing because there will be nothing to stop catabolism and until its organization returns and it will start producing testosterone alone, most of the gains during the cycle may be lost. To keep your muscular mass accumulated, you must do so that the body begins to produce its own testosterone as quickly as possible. The way you can do this varies from person to person. Without understanding what is happening in your body and why certain compounds help remedy the situation, it's hard to choose the best post-cycle therapy for you.
HPTA (hypothalamus-pituitary-testicular axis)
HPTA is like a body thermostat for natural testosterone production. Too much testosterone and "blast" will stop. Too little testosterone and the temperature is high. This process has three levels.
At the top is the hypothalamus which releases GnRH (gonadotropin releasing hormone) when it feels a decrease in testosterone levels. The GnRH sends a signal to the second level of the axis, the pituitary gland, which responds by the release of LH (luteinizing hormone), and it, in turn, stimulates the testicles to release testosterone. The same sex hormones (testosterone and estrogen) through negative feedback help stabilize levels when too much testosterone is present in the body.
Synthetic steroids can send the same negative feedback.
Post-Cylindic Therapy (PCT) involves the use of drugs that through various mechanisms help restore hormonal balance after a cycle in which anabolic and androgenic steroids have been used.
Clomiphene citrate, known mostly as the commercial name of Clomid, and tamoxifen, known under the popular name of Nolvadex, can be used post-cycle to restore natural testosterone production. Since both drugs have the ability to block estrogen from acting on the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland, thus blocking negative feedback, it can be said that these two substances lead to an increase in FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and LH in the body. Increasing LH, stimulates Leydig cells in the testicles, leading to testosterone production.
There are people who find it enough to use only tamoxifen after a cure of anabolic and androgenic steroids so that testosterone levels return to normal. But most prefer to use both drugs to attack the problem from all angles. It should be noted that tamoxifen is more effective in stimulating LH secretion over time when milligram per milligram is compared with clomiphene citrate. Clomid can also bring some side effects such as visual disturbances and sudden mood swings.
